Tips on Choosing a Collision Repair Shop

01 Jun

So you’ve been in an accident. First, be thankful that you are OK and its only your car that has suffered the damage. Next, start thinking about where you might want to take your car to get it fixed. Do you have insurance? Do you need a rental car? Is a knowledgable, trustworthy staff important to you? Take a look at some of our tips below to help choose the right collision repair shop for you.

1. Word Of Mouth

Chances are you have a lot in common with your friends. You probably trust them more than any commercial you see on TV. So ask them where they go. Or, if you have a computer handy, check out reviews of collision shops online. Are they on Facebook? Do they have lots of fans that have great things to say about them? Word of mouth has now traveled to the online world in the form of social media and you can find what people have to say on just about anything.

2. Do Your Research

If possible, start looking up auto repair shops before you get into an accident. That way you won’t have to think about it during that stressful time and you’ll know who is closest to you and where you think will be the best place for you. But if you’ve already been in a collision, no worries! You can still do some thorough research. Check to see if the shop has a website online. Chances are you might be able to get a lot of your questions answered there as well as see pictures of some of their work. “Before and After” shots show a quick glance at their repair jobs. Or simply pick up the phone and give them a call. You’ll get a feel for the type of staff they have with your first encounter with the receptionist.

3. Ask 4 Questions

First, ask if they accept your insurance company. A lot of shops work with most insurance companies, but it’s always safest to ask. Second, ask about the warranty on their work. Hopefully you shouldn’t need to come back, but in case you do make sure they offer a warranty that you are satisfied with. Third, ask if they provide assistance with rentals cars if you need one. And finally, ask how long they’ve been in business. Longevity of their company can be a testament to their work, especially in these hard times when it’s so easy for companies to go under.

4. Swing By The Shop For an Estimate

Hopefully the shop offers free estimates. You can even go to 2 or 3 shops if you want to compare estimates, friendliness of staff, and to get a feel for each one to see which is best for you.
