Safety Apps For Driving

18 Apr

As technology speeds ahead, smartphone apps that help drivers (and especially teens) stay safe on the road are helping keep the speed down. Here at Juanita Collision we see some pretty dinged up cars come through our shop, but some of the scariest damaged vehicles we see are because of distracted drivers. No one’s life is worth putting at risk because of a conversation with a friend; trust us, the conversation can wait.

According to Distraction.Gov, an official government website for distracted driving, 16% of fatal crashes in 2009 were due to distracted driving. Even more shocking is the fact that sending or receiving a text takes a driver’s eyes from the road for an average of 4.6 seconds, the equivalent of driving at 55 mph for the length of an entire football field, blind. That’s a scary thought! So to help keep you and your family safe, we’ve found a few different smartphone apps that can help help assist your driver on the road.

iGuardianTeen

This app tracks and emails to you a summary report of your teen’s driving session. It can also send you real time text messages to alert you if they exceed over a certain MPH or if any unsafe driving maneuvers are taken.

DriveSafe.ly

This app reads and sends text messages and emails aloud in real time and so the driver doesn’t need to touch the phone. It is Bluetooth and radio transmitter compatible.

Steer Clear® Mobile

This is an app by State Farm Insurance that is part of their larger, comprehensive program that reinforces positive driving behavior for young drivers and helps them stay aware of hazards on the road.
